Over the past few months, many of those MPs hellbent on disrupting the Brexit process or even trying to kill it off altogether, have used the threat of a ‘No Deal’ scenario as their modus operandi. The scare stories surrounding ‘No Deal’ have also been adopted by the main stream media, and in fact, all those who wish to disrespect the outcome of the 2016 referendum, when the United Kingdom voted to leave the EU by 52% to 48%.
In legal terms A ‘No-Deal’ Brexit refers to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) without a withdrawal agreement, and is the default position, in the event that the two parties fail to approve such an agreement that must be ratified by the UK Parliament.
Recently, MPs have renewed efforts to claim that the UK leaving the EU on WTO terms will result in economic catastrophe. Words like ‘crashing out’, ‘cliff edge’ or ‘disasterous’ are often used to describe a ‘No Deal Brexit’ and the typical approach has been to claim highly exagerated downsides while at the same time, ignoring or trivialising all possible upsides.
The truth is that those who are making a big deal about ‘No Deal’, typically want ‘No Brexit’, and have no proof whatsoever to back their claims. No one knows how a No Deal scenario will affect the future of the UK or indeed the future of the EU. The main reason why ‘No Deal’ is so attractive to the majority of leavers is that it offers a complete break from the EU with no ongoing obligations, financial or otherwise.
So, it is high time that Remainer MPs, the Main Stream Media, and all other factions who are concerned about possible income from the Bloc, realised that their perpetual lies and deceit serve only to reinforce the determination of those who voted to leave, in making sure that the eventual outcome is one of total divorce.
